A free book on the county’s civil war timeline is now available from Kildare Libraries

As part of County Kildare Council’s Heritage Week programme, Cllr Pádraig McEvoy, Chairman of the County Kildare Commemorations Decade Committee, has officially launched a timeline of the Civil War in County Kildare 1922- 1924, at Maynooth Library on Thursday 18 August.

Further launches are planned for the municipal libraries of Athy and Kildare.

Authors Mario Corrigan and James Durney gave a short presentation of the significant events of the period.

The new publication highlights local political, military, social and cultural episodes and incidents that occurred in the county during the Civil War period, as well as some of the major events that took place on the island of Ireland.

According to the library service, if you are curious about the history of Kildare, the publication will help you navigate the civil war period in the county. Although the book is not a complete history of the Civil War, it does bring new information to light.

A timeline of the Civil War in County Kildare 1922-1924 has been supported by the County Kildare Commemorations Decade Committee. The research, compilation and editing of this publication was undertaken by Mario Corrigan in conjunction with the Local Studies, Genealogy and Records Department of the Kildare Library Service. This is a companion volume to A Timeline of the War of Independence in County Kildare 1919-1922.

Free copies of the publication will be available from all branches of the Kildare Library and Arts Department in the coming weeks. It will also be available for download after launch on the County Kildare Library Service’s Decade of Commemorations webpage.

Later launches

Two more launch events will take place in the coming days.

Members of the public are invited to the launches at Athy Library on August 25 at 5pm and Kildare City Library on September 1 at 7.30pm. Free copies of the book will be available at both launches.
