ALAMOGORDO, New Mexico (KTSM) – The Salvation Army division in Alamogordo has launched a team to manage donated items to support Afghan refugees at Holloman Air Force Base.
The Salvation Army’s Southwest Division Disaster Emergency Services have launched the incident management team to help manage the donation of 100 tons of items in support of the operation Allies Welcome to Holloman AFB.
Afghan refugees arrived at Holloman AFB on August 31, 2021. The refugees are being evacuated to the United States as part of Operation Allies Welcome, the US Department of Homeland Security’s mission to safely resettle Afghan refugees.
EDS has worked with the Holloman Spouses Organization and the Holloman AFB Military Joint Task Force to implement warehousing operations for donations and resources that are distributed to Afghan evacuees as they continue to arrive at the base.
âWe had an incredible stock, a stock that I didn’t see in response to an emergency so quickly,â said Nikki Woollin, Salvation Army captain. âIt’s been a wave of donations and support to help those in need. ”
Flowtrac, a Salvation Army partner, helped EDS and IMT create an inventory platform for warehouse operations and received a fully funded donation of $ 53,875 from the UPS Foundation.
Afghan refugees receive individual bags of clean clothes, shoes, toiletries and personal items through donations.
The Salvation Army’s Southwest Division has units located in Arizona, New Mexico, and southern Nevada, including seven in New Mexico.
If you want to support the effort, you can visit Salvation Army Southwest.org or send a check to The Salvation Army Southwest Division, PO Box 52177, Phoenix, AZ 85072.
