Smyrna– Delaware State Police Arrest 21-Year-Old Nasir Wright from Wilmington, DE, on drug and weapons charges following a traffic stop Thursday morning in Smyrna.
On September 30, 2021, at approximately 1:40 a.m., a law enforcement officer in the area of Route 1 south of Exit 114, recorded a gray Kia Optima traveling northbound on Route 1 at over 100 miles an hour. The police officer initiated a traffic stop and came into contact with three occupants inside the vehicle. Upon contact, the soldier detected a smell of marijuana emanating from the vehicle. A criminal investigation ensued, and a probable cause search was conducted. During a search of the vehicle, the soldier discovered a Sig Sauer 9mm handgun, approximately 108.03 grams of marijuana, approximately 60.13 of psilocybin mushrooms and over $ 180 in suspected drug products.
The investigation determined that the front passenger, identified as Nasir Wright, was the suspect in possession of the items recovered above. Wright was arrested without incident and transported to Troop 9 where he was charged with the following crimes:
- Possession of a lethal weapon by a prohibited person (crime)
- Carrying a concealed lethal weapon (crime)
- Possession with intent to distribute a controlled substance (felony) – 2 counts
Wright was brought to justice before Justice of the Peace No.7 and released on unsecured $ 10,000 bail.
The 21-year-old driver of the Kia Optima has been cited for speeding.
