Suspicious vehicle leads to stolen gun and drugs


Gun stolen in Kentucky

On May 30, 2022, at approximately 3:56 a.m., Madison police arrested Joshua TA Pearson, 23, Madison, Indiana, on firearms charges, and Trace C. Harris, 24, Madison, Indiana, for a drug-related charge.

Madison Police Officer Ben Flint responded to the 900 block of W. Third Street at the foot of Heritage Trail regarding a suspicious vehicle. Upon arrival, Agent Flint located Pearson, Harris and one other person.

Officer Flint noted that Pearson was trying to hide something in the waistband of his pants. Officer Flint asked Pearson to raise his hands, at which point a handgun and holster were exposed. Pearson and the handgun were secured without incident.

The follow-up investigation revealed that Pearson was a convicted serious violent felon and was prohibited from owning a firearm. Additionally, the firearm Pearson possessed had previously been reported as stolen by the Carrollton, Kentucky Police Department. Officers also located a legendary drug in the vehicle that Pearson had been a passenger in and Harris had driven.

Joshua Pearson is facing alleged preliminary charges of – felony misdemeanor possession of a firearm felony L-4, possession of stolen property felony L-6 and unlawful possession of a misdemeanor Class A legendary drug. Trace Harris is facing an alleged preliminary charge of unlawful possession of a legendary drug, misdemeanor class A.

Pearson and Harris both have the presumption of innocence until proven guilty. Officer Curtis Shelpman and Deputy Brian Muldoon assisted Flint in the investigation.
