The Brick Township Historical Society will sponsor New York’s 61st Regiment for a Civil War encampment at its Havens Homestead Museum property this weekend.
The encampment, which comes to town every summer, simulates the daily life of soldiers during the war. Soldiers will march, shoot, interact with the public and explain what life was like during an encampment. They sleep in tents and cook their own food over a fire pit.
The Brick Township Historical Society will also organize tours of the museum and show the other buildings on the property. Society members will grill and sell burgers, frankfurters and soft drinks. There will be a sale of homemade baked goods, as well as homemade jams, jellies and jarred vegetables. The Lizzie Herbert Gift Shop will have special offers.
The museum grounds are located at 521 Herbertsville Road, Brick. Visiting hours for the public are August 6 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. and August 7 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Admission is free, but donations are greatly appreciated.
