ODESSA, Texas — You may know the Salvation Army from its red kettles and bell ringers during Christmas time, but this year they’re taking another holiday by storm.

“What we do, we do out of love,” said Major Luis Melendez of the Odessa Salvation Army. “Hey in the Salvation Army, there’s a lot of love to give.”

The Salvation Army uses Valentine’s Day to spread love in the community and Beyond Love.

“I mean that’s what we do, we were here to help people a little bit beyond the social service an individual might have, that’s a big motivation when we do it because we love God , we love our neighbors, we love our community.” Saïd Melendez

The Salvation Army is known for providing people in need with weather such as food, a warm place to sleep, resources and countless other things, but this campaign message is more about giving love and support to those in need.

“It’s almost like no one is unloved or unloved,” Melendez said.

Sometimes all you need is a little care and compassion to know you’re worthy no matter what.

“It’s about that path of love to help people turn around and steady themselves, knowing they can do it.” Said Melendez

The Salvation Army has seen the love come from the West Texas community through donations and volunteers, but it’s also important to give your time to listen and care.

“Instead of looking at it in dollars or items, we were going to get to the root of it which is love, and that can go a long way.” said Melendez
