During the past day, the Ukrainian army repelled enemy attacks near nine settlements, namely Bilohorivka in Lugansk region and Bakhmut, Bakhmutske, Klishchiivka, Krasnohorivka, Novomykhailivka, Nevelske, Opytne and Marinka in Donetsk region .
The relevant statement was made by the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine on Facebook at 06:00, October 20, 2022, reports a correspondent of Ukrinform.
Russian troops are trying to hold the temporarily occupied areas, concentrate their efforts on limiting the actions of the Ukrainian Defense Forces in certain directions, and continue their attempts to carry out offensive actions in the Bakhmut and Avdiivka directions.
In violation of international humanitarian law and the laws and customs of war, the enemy continues to strike critical infrastructure and civilian homes.
Over the past day, the Russian invaders have launched 11 missile strikes and 28 airstrikes on Ukrainian territory, and opened fire with Multiple Launch Rocket Systems (MLRS) more than 65 times.
More than 25 settlements came under enemy fire, namely Burshtyn from the Ivano-Frankivsk region, Ladyzhyn from the Vinnytsia region, Zelenodolsk from the Dnipropetrovsk region, Siversk, Sloviansk and Terny from the Donetsk region, Znachkove from the Zaporizhzhia region and Davydiv Brid from the Kherson region. The Russian occupiers used cruise, air-launched and anti-aircraft missiles, as well as more than 10 Iranian-made Shahed-136 suicide drones (half of them – from the territory of Belarus).
In the Volyn, Polissia and Siverskyi directions, the situation remained rather unchanged.
In other directions, Russian troops opened fire as follows:
in the direction of Slobozhankskyi – near settlements such as Hoptivka, Hrianykivka, Kolodiazne, Krasne, Ohirtseve and Strilecha of the Kharkiv region, with different artillery systems;
in the Kupiansk and Lyman directions – near Berestove, Kyslivka and Pershotravneve of Kharkiv region, Kovalivka, Novoiehorivka and Novoliubivka of Luhansk region, and Zarichne, Terny and Torske of Donetsk region, with cannons and artillery rockets;
in the direction of Bakhmut – near Andriivka, Bakhmut, Bakhmutske, Bilohorivka, Zelenopillia, Klishchiivka, Kurdiumivka, Pivnichne, Maiorsk, New York, Soledar and Yakovlivka of the Donetsk region, with tanks and artillery;
in the direction of Avdiivka – near Avdriivka, Vodiane, Pervomaiske, Opytne, Krasnohorivka, Marinka and Novomykhailivka of the Donetsk region, with tanks, mortars, cannons and artillery rockets.
In the Novopavlivka and Zaporizhzhia directions, Russian troops did not carry out active offensive actions. More than 20 settlements came under enemy fire along the entire line of contact, namely Velyka Novosilka, Vremivka, Vuhledar and Zolota Nyva in the Donetsk region, and Mykilske, Orikhiv and Chervone in the Zaporizhzhia region.
In the direction of Southern Bug, the Russian invaders continue to set up defensive positions. The enemy opens fire on the settlements everywhere on the line of contact in order to slow down the counter-offensive of the Ukrainian army.
According to preliminary data, the leaders of Iran and the Russian Federation have agreed to send UCAV instructors and advisers to Russia. In particular, Shahed-136 and Arash-2 operators are known to have undergone training so far.
There is a high risk of Russian shelling of civilian objects in the Kherson region. On the morning of October 19, 2022, the Russian occupiers spread false reports among the residents of Nova Kakhovka about the Ukrainian army preparing to open fire.
According to confirmed data, in recent days the Ukrainian Defense Forces struck groups of enemy military personnel and equipment in the Zaporizhzhia region. Up to 150 Russian soldiers were injured and about 15 units of military equipment were destroyed.
Over the past day, the Ukrainian Air Force launched 10 strikes on enemy positions. Six groups of enemy military ordnance and equipment were confirmed hit, along with four air defense missile system positions. Ukrainian air defense units shot down six enemy cruise missiles, a Ka-52 attack helicopter and 16 drones (including 14 Shahed-136 drones).
Ukrainian missile and artillery units hit three Russian command posts, six groups of military personnel, ammunition and equipment, an ammunition depot, an electronic warfare system and six other important targets, including a bridge and a pontoon used by the Russian invaders.
