UPD seizes another weapon during a vehicle stop on April 10

UTICA, NY (WUTR/WFXV/WPNY) – The Utica Police Department reports that a man has been charged with multiple felonies after being caught with an illegal weapon during a vehicle stop conducted on April 10.and.

At approximately 6:00 p.m. Sunday, officers from the UPD Crime Prevention Unit and the Oneida County Sheriff’s Office stopped a vehicle in the 1100 block of Steuben Street. Inside were two occupants, including the driver, Eric Taylor-Holmes, 26, of Bridgewater, NY.

While speaking with Holmes, reasonable suspicion was reportedly developed and he was asked to exit the vehicle for further maintenance. As he exited the vehicle, officers allegedly saw a black Taurus 709 Slim 9mm semi-automatic handgun in the driver’s seat which was concealed by him sitting on it.

Officers immediately seized the weapon and detained the two occupants. The gun was found loaded.

At the conclusion of the GIVE Unit investigation, Eric Taylor-Holmes was charged with the following:

  • Second degree criminal possession of a weapon (Class C felony)
  • Criminal possession of a firearm (Class B felony)
  • NYSV&TL Violations
